Brief history of Restaurant MALACATIN
In 1893 Don Julian Diaz went to Madrid from Santiago de Horcajo (Cuenca area between Madrid and Valencia).
He started to work as errand boy for a little wine bar in the centre of Madrid and already 2 years after he took over the place. There were no lights or water, but by using oil lamps and a lot of work, he built up the place to a nice little wine bar and wine shop.
The local people did their way over to get a glass of wine, ..all from the baker, painter, the constructor and the local beggar with his guitar, etc. All were welcome at Julian’s wine bar.

Don Julian was later married to Maria, which gave him 12 children (10 girls and 2 boys).
The small business was successful because of their kindness and great hospitality, as well as the many family members created the life and joy on the spot.
The man with his guitar was passing daily and one of his favorite songs was the number, .."tin, tin, tin". Simply because his name was "Malacatin".
tin, tin, tin.. Ma-la-ca-tin ..tin, tin

Today, the management of the Restaurant Malacatin are chased by the grandchild Dona Conchi and her son Jose Alberto, with joy and great hospitality.
They keep the same spirit and tradition as evidenced by the large family, and not least Don Julian Diaz
